OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2008. Last weekend was marked by such a spectacular event as Riga 25th Cycling Marathon sponsored by Rietumu Bank. Professional cyclists, amateurs and enthusiasts took part in the Marathon, reported the press-centre of Rietumu Bank.

Professional teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus and Russia competed to win Riga Grand Prix, the annual Marathon’s traditional award. Out of 88 sportsmen, who took a 170 km distance, Normund Lasis from Dynatek Latvia breast the tape. The leader of our cycling team Rietumu Banka-Riga Alexei Saramotin secured the 3rd place.

More than 1400 people took part in the Marathon this year: 170 families – in the family race, 109 children – in the children race and 1134 participants – in the public race. Kristaps Knops and Elena Dovgaljuk (among ladies) won the amateur 53.7 km race.
