OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2008.  During their meeting in Aomori, Japan, Energy Minister of Russia Sergey Shmatko and Energy Minister of Japan Akira Amari discussed the prospects for deepening Russian-Japanese partnership in fuel and energy sector, particularly, in nuclear power industry.

The meeting took place in the framework of a conference of the energy ministers of G8.

Russia and Japan are going to cooperate in the development of new oil and gas deposits in Eastern Siberia. The extracted oil and gas will be supplied to Japan via the East Pacific pipeline. Japan is ready to join in the program to develop the energy sector of Siberia and Far East, while Russia is ready to supply Japanese nuclear power plants with fuel.
