The XII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum began with the plenary sitting titled National Economic Interests and Global Management Institutions. This year’ agenda includes the current aspects of economic, energy and humanitarian co-operation as well as the challenges mankind faces nowadays – food and environmental security, in particular global warming.

Urgency and applied significance of such specialized forums are obvious. For being focused on the priority fields of international co-operation the forums provide the opportunities of searching jointly for the effective forms of collaboration and concerting efforts in the mutual interests. It is that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on addressing the CIS informal summit. The President of Turkmenistan put forward the proposal to hold the Forum of CIS Agricultural Producers in Ashgabat in 2009 and an exhibition of agricultural goods, machines and advanced technologies in the framework of the Forum. The Turkmen leader’s initiative is another step towards enhancing and developing mutually advantageous co-operation in the space of the CIS as well that is a key trend of Turkmenistan’s political strategy.
