OREANDA-NEWS. On June 06, 2008 State Industrial Safety Supervision Agency (Gosgorpromnadzor) awarded “Azovstal” Steel Works, which is under umbrella of Metinvest Group, with the Certificate of Merit for the high standards of health and safety and prevention of industrial accidents, reported the press-centre of SCM.

The reward was given on the basis of the results of All Ukrainian Event "Health and Safety Week".

Within the confines of the Event a special commission, which includes heads of structural subdivisions and specialists from Health and Safety Department of the plant, studied the functioning of the health and safety system at subdivisions of “Azovstal” Steel Works. The Commission also verified the compliance with the provisions of the Collective Agreement currently in force and noted that it is strictly followed.

Along with the comprehensive survey of the subdivisions' work and advisory services on health and safety issues the Commission received 270 proposals from the plant's employees on improvement of working conditions. Most proposals were related to the plant's preparation for operation during the summer: ensuring potable water supply and temperature conditions.

Representatives of Mariupol State Inspection on Health and Safety and Territorial Administration of State Industrial Safety Supervision Agency in Donetsk Oblast noted high efficiency of “Azovstal” efforts in occupational risk elimination and high level of health and safety culture at the plant's subdivisions.

“Azovstal” Steel Works makes it a priority to care for employees’ health and safety at each working place. Annually "Azovstal" invests significant funds into elimination of industrial accidents, preventive measures against industrial accidents and industrial diseases and improvement of sanitation and hygiene at work.   The plant has a health and safety management and professional health system in place, which is in compliance with the requirements of international standard OHSAS 18001. "Azovstal" plans to get audited to get the Certificate on the standard until the end of next year.
