President of Ukraine Urges Anti-Inflation Measures
OREANDA-NEWS. On May 30, 2008 speaking about economic situation in Ukraine, and inflation rates in particular, at today’s NSDC meeting President Yushchenko urged the Coalition, the Government and the National Bank of Ukraine to unite in effective work on fighting back negative economic tendencies, reported the Official website www.president.gov.ua.
“I strongly recommend the Coalition, the Government and the NBU to return to a round table to form a well thought-out way of fighting back the challenges, existing today in Ukrainian economy”, - said Victor Yushchenko. “We must separate politics from economy”, - he added.
Addressing National Bank’s leadership President said: “I would like you to isolate yourselves from the advisors, who are guided by political, rather than by state interests. Monetary instruments are unable to improve situation with inflation of budgetary nature”.
Victor Yushchenko also emphasized that he does not consider effective the decisions on imposing limitations on seeds-oil and grain exports or attempts of tax-free import of sugar and meat, when it comes to fighting inflation growth. “I did veto decisions of such nature, and will continue doing so because they are out of the context when it comes to both fighting inflation and forming fair and transparent rules at Ukrainian markets”, - he said.
