PM Urges MAERSK LINE to Develop Its Business in Latvian Ports
OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2008. Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, held a meeting with the management of the Danish container shipping giant MAERSK LINE in order to discuss topical issues related to container transhipment through Latvia’s ports, reported the Official website www.mk.gov.lv.
Eivind Kolding, CEO of MAERSK LINE, showed deep interest in the business development in Riga Port where the company is currently the biggest client ensuring transit cargo delivery and shipment. E.Kolding pointed out to the increasing volumes of container shipments in the world and emphasised that the Danish company sees positive development opportunities for the container business in Latvia.
The Prime Minister informed the management of MAERSK LINE about Latvia’s plans with regard to increasing the volume of container cargo transit. Ivars Godmanis invited MAERSK LINE to further develop its operations in the Latvian ports and provided information about their development plans.
The sides also discussed issues related to efficient management ands specialisation of ports, as well as the role of railway transport in the container shipment business.
