South-Eastern Railways Upgrade Stations to Handle Increasing Freight
OREANDA-NEWS. May 20, 2008. South-Eastern Railways plans to modernise Kazinka and Chugun-2 stations to cope with increasing volumes of freight from the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Combine (NMC) and the Joint Stock Company Stagdok, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
It is planned to build three receiving-and-departure tracks at Park B and additional running lines at Park A at Kazinka station, a new park at the Chugun-2 station and a third main line between Chugun-1 and Chugun-2 stations.
Work has also been undertaken on lengthening the 9 existing receiving-and-departure tracks at the Chugun-2 Station.
South-Eastern Railways and NMC have carried out a feasibility study on the electrification of Novolipetsk and Vostochny stations, which are owned by NMC, as well as on the station-to-station blocks adjacent to the Kazinka yard.
NMC is one of Russia’s largest metallurgical enterprises and in the coming years will increase its shipments of slabs and rolled iron.
The Studenovskaya Mining Joint Stock Company, or Stagdok from the initials of its Russian name, forecasts that freight loaded will increase by 2.2 times by 2012.
These enterprises are served at Kazinka and Chugun-2 stations on the Elets section of South-Eastern Railways.
