Inflation in Moldova Is Stipulated by Limited Number of Products
OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2008. The report of the National Bank of Moldova states this. It is noted that since the beginning of 2008 (in March 2008 as compared to December 2007) inflation rate in the country amounted to 4,1%.
In particular, the prices for food stuffs increased by 7,4%, for non-food-by 0,9%, and for services - by 4,8%, respectively.
During the last 12 months (from March 2007 to March 2008) inflation rate amounted to 15,4%. The growth of prices for food products made 22.1%, for non-food -10.2%, for services - 10.5%, respectively.
NBM notes that, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, in January-March 2008, significant increase in prices for beef (40%), pork (26%), lamb (40%), was registered. The increase in prices for livestock products has been affected by the drought in summer of the last year and by significant decline in output of livestock products at the domestic market.
Thus, the Government annulled decision for restrictions on imports of meat, which should positively affect the general price level. NBM believes that measures taken by the Government and NBM, will slow the pace of price rise in future, and the inflation rate will amount to 10%. NBM states that it will continue monitoring of prices and will try to achieve price stability.
