Kazakhstan Cooperates with Lithuania in Transport, Agriculture
OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2008. “Lithuania’s experience and interaction with Lithuanian businesses to exploit transport capacities are of great interest to us. I believe there are a number of vectors we can be moving along relying on the Lithuania’s transit potential”, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov told a briefing following the talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Gediminas Kirkilas, reported the Official website http://en.government.kz.

I believe there are a number of vectors we can be moving along relying on the Lithuania’s transit potential”, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Karim Massimov told a briefing following the talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Gediminas Kirkilas.
Our country is also interested in cooperation in the farm produce processing. “This is a particular area where the Lithuanian side has accumulated a wide experience. Lithuanian products can compete even at the highly contested European markets of dairy products and meat”, Head of the Kazakh Government said.
According to him, the sides agreed on use of Lithuania’s technology in agricultural sector of Kazakhstan.
The two sides pointed out to the efficiency of the talks. At the same time, they were not satisfied with the trade turnover of Euro 400 million as there are all the possibilities in place to augment the figure. “There are many interests in energy and transport realms”, PM Gediminas Kirkilas said. A business forum similar to that held in Astana will be arranged in Lithuania, he said.
In the course of his official visit to Kazakhstan, PM Gediminas Kirkilas extended invitation to President Nursultan Nazarbayev to visit Lithuania. He also invited PM Karim Massimov of Kazakhstan.
The visit of the Lithuania’s Prime Minister is a milestone in development of bilateral ties, K. Massimov told the briefing. “This is the first visit of a Lithuanian PM to Kazakhstan in 13 years”.
Besides, K. Massimov expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian side for support rendered to Kazakhstan’s bid to chair the OSCE in 2010.
“We were talking of having consultations on dialogue with the EU, which Lithuania is a part of”, K. Massimov said.
As the Lithuanian PM said, in the course of the talks the sides dwelt on Afghanistan. “We talked of possible cooperation, our mission to reconstruct one of the Afghan provinces; and I believe we will find a common language on the matter”, Gediminas Kirkilas said.
Besides, there is a potential in developing culture ties between our nations. “Next year Lithuania will be celebrating its 2000th anniversary. It's an important celebration and we have agreed that a Kazakh delegation will be attending the events", K. Massimov said.
