UNDP Extends Its Message on the World Press Freedom Day
OREANDA-NEWS. On 15 May 2008 was announced, that the United Nations Development Program together with the cluster bureau of UNESCO and Human Rights Commission around the President extended their address to Kazakh media on the World Press Freedom Day. The major topic of the organized press-conference was the launch of the public discussion of the right to access to information, as one of the basic human rights, proclaimed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
During her speech before the journalists in Almaty, the Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP Ms. Steliana Nedera mentioned that in the conditions of the current level of informatization of the modern society the issue of access to information gains even more significant meaning. "This is one of the most important factors of the development of the civilized country", - she said. Furthermore, she also added that legal regulatory framework of the informational technologies in Kazakhstan needs close international support, referring to the project of creation of the Human Rights Library implemented by the UNDP as one of the harbinger. This initiative laid down the grounds for the organization of public center on business and legal information network in the country.
