On 15 May 2008 was announced, that the tyre cord plant was installed at the Orel plant in 2005, and at that time was considered to be the largest in Europe. 9 years ago, when the first steel cord was manufactured, the production of hose wire was developed. In 1993 production of cord for conveyer belt and brass plated bead wire were started. Today new types of products account for over 40% of manufacture.

In the last few years, Orelcord has concentrated on achieving cost reductions and development of production technology. In 2002 the steel cord plant was awarded "Silver Medal" for the program of renovation and modernization of production processes at the "Metal-Expo" exhibition in Moscow.

On the 1st of April Orelcord is celebrating another anniversary. It is 3 years since production of steel cord was launched as an independent business-unit of the Severstal-metiz company. During this time, the business has achieved excellent results, with 2007 net profit reaching 844 million roubles exceeding 2005 levels by 58%. The wages were increased in twice, and manning productivity has grown by 50%.
