Throughput of Vostochny Port Up 3.1% to 6.8 mln Tonnes in Jan-Apr 08
OREANDA-NEWS. May 14, 2008. In January-April, 2008, Vostochny port increased its throughput by 3.1%, year-on-year, to 6.806.5 million tonnes. In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo totaled 6.714.8 million tonnes (+2.6%, year-on-year) including 5.444.3 million tonnes of bulk and loose cargo (+0.8%). Transshipment of coal amounted to 5.104.5 million tonnes (+0.7%), 324,700 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+3.5%), 59,900 tonnes of timber (down 2.4 times against January-April 07). In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo totaled 68,400 tonnes (up 6.4-fold, year-on-year) including 50,400 tonnes of scrap metal (up 7.5 times against January-April 07). The port’s container throughput totaled 131,337 TEU (+15.3%). In the 4-month period the port handed 91,700 tonnes of oil products (+64.9%).
Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 16 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
