OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2008. Moscow Institute of Social Memory and the Marketing Faculty of Gomel Pavel Sukhoi State Technical University plan to carry out a joint pilot project on the development and implementation of genealogical tourism in the Gomel oblast. The seminar on this topic will be held in Gomel on June 2.

The department of the physical culture, sport and tourism of the Gomel oblast executive committee told that the project is being implemented with the help of the federal cultural and national autonomy “Belarusians of Russia”, scientific institutions of Moscow and Gomel, local governments. The essence of the project is to establish permanent tourist routes across the places of generic memory. The first tour of such kind (Moscow-Gomel- Vetka-Rogachev-Moscow) is to take place late May –early June. It is meant for those who were born in the Vetka and Rogachev regions but currently live in Moscow. The destination of their trip will be the former estate of the Kignas family in the Rogachev region and the village of Akshinka in the Vetka region.

The programme of the tour also includes a seminar with the participation of Moscow Institute of Social Memory, the Marketing Faculty of Gomel Pavel Sukhoi State Technical University and the representatives of the department of physical culture, sport and tourism as well as historians and sociologists. In the course of the seminar the sides will consider the draft concept of the development of the genealogical tourism in the Gomel oblast.
