IMF Welcomes Turkmenistan’s Economic Reforms
OREANDA-NEWS. May 5, 2008. The regular consultations with the International Monetary Fund Mission are held in Ashgabat. The consultations held each year on the regular basis cover the issues related to the economic and financial policy, the exchange rate policy in particular.
The IMF experts highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s steps towards implementation of the large-scale economic reforms initiated in the interests of the Turkmen state and the people and aimed at ensuring the country’s successful integration into the global economic system.
The Head of the IMF Mission in Turkmenistan said that the IMF positively evaluated the existing progress that Turkmenistan had achieved through implementing the economic reforms in the past year and half, and especially the recent resolute measures to transfer to the unified exchange rate. This measure along with the other additional reforms considerably promoted further Turkmenistan’s economic and financial development and its successful integration into the global economic system. The Head of the IMF Mission said that the IMF Mission would continue to provide support to the reforms in Turkmenistan as well as denomination of the national currency unit – manat scheduled for 2009.
