OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2008. It was declared during the press conference by the first vice-president of EBRD Varel Freeman. He noted, that 1/3 of EBRD’s aid will be provided to the state sector, and 2/3 to the private one.

Varel Freeman said that this year EBRD plans to expand its activity in Moldova due to improvement of the business climate and liberalization of the trade regime with EU." Last year the amount of aid, provided by the bank, has made 36 million euros and this year EBRD plans to double this assistance", - Varel Freeman has told.

As he said, the bank plans to implement projects in such areas as transport, infrastructure, regional development, small and medium-sized enterprises, construction of water supply and sewage networks, strengthening and development of the power sector. Freeman also noted that EBRD will promote a number of projects in the field of power efficiency which assumes introduction of energy-saving technologies, as well as technical assistance for audit in the power sector. arel Freeman has declared that in Moldova EBRD provides loans without the state guarantee that generates a number of risks on the one hand, and contributes to the fact that the external state duty does not grow and private sector becomes more responsible in repaying loans in time, on the other. One of the future scale projects EBRD plans to implement in 2008 is the project of reconstruction of Chisinau international airport.

The first vice-president of the bank has also noted, that EBRD will continue to pay special attention to the bank sector of Moldova. Till now EBRD has provided Moldavian banks with the loans amounting to 80 million euros, and in March 2008 confirmed new lines of financing bank sector at a rate of 70 million euros intended for crediting small and medium businesses.

Since 1992, EBRD approved 49 projects for total amount of 205 million euros.
