OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2008. System Capital Management (SCM) has made a presentation of its corporate social responsibility policies at the Ukraine’s second international conference on Corporate Social Responsibility which took place at Kiev’s Hyatt Hotel. The conference was organized by the leading business magazine, Expert Ukraine, reported the press-centre of SCM.

Jock Mendoza-Wilson, Director of International and Investor Relations for System Capital Management, who was one of the keynote speakers at the event and made a presentation “Building Effective Dialogue”, said: “To be successful in implementing a corporate responsibility strategy business needs to develop a set of clear policies which determines its actions in this area and then to ensure that these policies are part of the core business strategy. Businesses focus should be on those areas where it can have greatest impact for example, investing in improved health, safety and training of employees, reducing its impact on the environment, and contributing to the communities it is part of. The conference showed that in a short space of time, Ukrainian business has made major steps in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility and is striving to reach international standards.”

The conference took as its key theme the importance of building better business and a better society and brought together an impressive list of international and Ukrainian speakers from government, business and NGOs.  Other key note speakers were: Petro Poroshenko, Chairman of the National Bank, Victor Panteleyenko, Deputy Minister of the Economy, Francis O’Donnell, Resident Co-ordinator of the United Nations in Ukraine, Bradley Googins, President of Boston Centre for Corporate Citizenship, the leading international research centre on CSR, and Shelly Esque, Director of Worldwide Corporate Affairs for Intel Corporation.

The conference, which was attended by over 200 delegates, discussed the social policies used by Ukrainian business, the development of social and economic partnerships between business and local and regional authorities as well as briefings from experts on the best international practice in the field of corporate social responsibility.
