OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2008. Atomenergoprom OJSC is going to examine the capacities of the companies of Russia’s nuclear industry, including the companies working in the nuclear weapons complex, for assessing the possibility of their involvement in the machine building projects to be implemented in the framework of the country’s large-scale NPP construction program.

“We are going to see what reserves and capacities we have for developing our nuclear power equipment production,” says a representative of Atomenergoprom.

For this purpose, Atomenergoprom has instructed its subsidiary, Atomenergomash OJSC, to set up a special committee and to see in the next six months if the industry has excess or unused capacities.

Particularly, the subsidiary of Atomenergoprom, TVEL OJSC, has already started optimizing its capacities. One of TVEL’s plants, Mashinostroitelny Zavod (Elemash) OJSC, is planning to launch new productions having no relation to nuclear fuel fabrication. Presently, it is considering specific machine building projects.
