Russian Railways to Lay on 350 Additional Trains for May Holidays
OREANDA-NEWS. From 22 April to 12 May 2008, Russian Railways will lay on about 350 additional passenger trains to the most popular destinations during the May holidays, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
Peak passenger traffic this year is expected on Wednesday 30 April, although last year, the highest passenger numbers during the May holidays were recorded on 28 April.
Significant increases in passenger traffic are expected from Moscow to Kazan, Volgograd, Tambov, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saratov, Cheboksary, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Mineralnye Vody, Ulyanovsk, Voronezh and Belgorod.
In all, more than 160 additional trains from Moscow to the Russian regions will be laid on between 25 April to 12 May.
The most popular destinations among the CIS countries are to Ukraine, especially from Moscow to Kiev, Simferopol, Sevastopol, Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Evpatoria, Feodosia and Lvov etc.
At the moment, 123 additional trains will be laid on to Ukraine, 15 to Belarus (Moscow - Minsk and Moscow - Brest) and 16 to Moldavia (Moscow - Chisinau).
Additional trains will be put on as soon as demand requires.
