Port Yuzhny Plans to Transfer to EURO in Payments
OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2008. Commercial Seaport Yuzhny (Odessa region) plans to transfer to EURO in its payments with foreign ship owners, consignors and consignees, the port’s head Yuri Kruk says. According to him, the port currently accepts port charges and payment for cargo operations in dollars which results in considerable losses.
As it was reported earlier, on October-December the port decreased cargo handling by 10.7%, year-on-year, to 3.096.7 million tonnes.
Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port is capable of handling up to 15 million tonnes of cargo per year. Major directions of transportation are the basins of the Black and Mediterranean Seas, Latin America, USA, Middle East, South-East Asia. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep.
