Amount of Remittances Sent to Moldova by Individuals Increased by 48%
OREANDA-NEWS. April 16, 2008. In January-February 2008, amount of remittances sent to Moldova by individuals from abroad through commercial banks totaled \\$186,07 million, increasing by 48% in comparison with the same period of the last year.
As it was informed in the National bank of Moldova, in January-February, 2008, about \\$133,7 million (71,7 %), has been sent through fast money transfer systems.
In January, 2008, remittances of individuals sent through commercial banks of Moldova made \\$87,5 million, in February - \\$98,57 million. Fast money transfer systems operating in Moldova are as follows: Anelik, Posta rapida, Blizko, Strada Italia, BESXpress, Coinstar (Travelex), Caspian Money Transfer, Trabex, Contact Turkiye Express, Grecia Transfer, Unistream, Inter Expres, Uno Money Transfers, Leader, Western Union, Migom Xpress, Money, Money Gram, Privat Money.
In 2007, the volume of remittances sent to Moldova has reached the record indicator and amounted to \\$1 billion 216,22 million, thus increasing by 42,3% in comparison with 2006. The largest amounts were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, remittances of the guest workers make about 1/3 of GDP.
