Russian Railways to Create 8 Suburban Passenger Companies
OREANDA-NEWS. April 16, 2008. Russian Railways, in conjunction with Russian regional and municipal administrations, intends to create 8 suburban passenger companies in the form of open joint stock companies, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
Russian Railways, the Mayor’s Office in Moscow and the Moscow Region administration will set up the Moscow-Tverskaya Suburban Passenger Company to operate in Moscow and the Moscow and Tver Regions.
Russian Railways and the administration of the Nizhny Novgorod Region are to set up the Express Suburb Nizhny Novgorod, while in Bashkortostan the Company will found Suburban Passenger Company Bashtransprigorod together with the administration of Bashkortostan.
In the Republic of Karelia, Russian Railways and the regional authorities plan to establish a passenger suburban company, Karel Suburb, while Samaratransprigorod will serve the Samara region.
The Suburban Passenger Company Sodruzhestvo (Commonwealth) will operate in Tatarstan, Mari, Udmurtia, Chuvashia and part of the Kirov region.
Russian Railways and Krasnodar Territory plan to establish Kuban Express, while Perm Territory will be served by the Perm Suburban Company.
At the moment, 11 suburban passenger companies established jointly by Russian Railways and Russian regional authorities are already operating on the Russian railway network.
