EU May Offer Ukraine Status of Domestic Trade Market Member
OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2008. The European Union may offer Ukraine a special status of member of the domestic trade market Norway, Switzerland and Island currently have. This is disclosed in a statement of the Ukrainian-European Policy and Legal Advice Center.
The statement says that efficiency of the free trade zone creation between Ukraine and the EU will depend on coordination of regulatory acts of the two parties. If Ukraine does it quickly and professionally, the European Union may start talks on Ukraine's future membership in the EU domestic market.
Expert of the Ukrainian-European Policy and Legal Advice Center Darius Zeruolis is sure that it is presently advantageous for Ukraine. "It is possible to have an agreement on the free trade zone without an agreement on full access to the home market. If there will be a difference among technical standards, so Ukrainian goods will not enter the EU market without difficulty even with a zero customs duty". Ukraine aims to achieve a full membership in the EU, the Ukrainian party therefore has to take into account all legal nuances about integration to the EU domestic market during the free trade zone talks, Darius Zeruolis noted.
