OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2008. Two enterprises of Coks Group (JSC Coks and LLC Uchastok Coksoviy) were nominated among the "100 of the best enterprises in Russia. Ecology and environmental management" of the "Golden medal "European Quality" contest. The contest was held by the International Academy of Quality and Marketing under the auspices of the Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation for Science, Culture, Education, Health Protection and Ecology.

This year environmental projects were submitted for approval of the expert council by various enterprises and organizations from 50 regions of the country, and only 300 of them were qualified to the final, with only 100 awarded with am honourary reward. To choose the best in the industry of environmental protection, the following criteria were developed by the expert council: performance of funds invested for environmental activities, reduction of negative environmental impact and environmental program availability and execution. LLC Uchastok Coksoviy was the first coal enterprise of Kuzbass having become a contest participant and awarded with the honourary reward. In the year 2006 the company expenditures for environmental activities were 1,42 mln. rubles, and 2,16 mln. rubles in the year 2007. It is the second "European Quality” medal obtained by Kemerovo Coking Plant; last year the company was also elected among the "golden hundred" of Russia.

JSC Coks is certified for the compliance of the environmental management system with the requirements of International Standard ISO 14001:2004. And the contest reward was another proof of efficient environmental policy implemented by the enterprise. In the year 2006 50,8 mln. rubles were allotted for environmental activities in JSC Coks, and in the year 2007 this sum amounted to 68,5 mln. rubles. Gross atmospheric pollutant discharge was reduced to 3,857 tons per year which is 768 tons under the established standard.
