Ukraine Plans to Develop Europe-Asia Cargo Traffic
OREANDA-NEWS. April 11, 2008. Ukraine announced plans to boost trade turnover on the line Caucasus-Black-Sea-Baltic countries in 2008, Ukraine's Transport and Communications Minister Yosyp Vinskyi announced during his visit to Odesa (South Ukraine).
According to him, the 2007 volume of cargo traffic on the route grew by 22 percent. The Transport Ministry elaborated a transport strategy till 2015 in order to ensure further development of the cargo transportation process. The strategy's priority is the use of regular ferry lines of the shipping company UkrFerry on the sea, and the container train Viking on the land. The latter connects a seaside port of Illichivsk with ports of the Baltic countries.
The Great Silk Road route between Ukraine and China is being actively developed as well. Intensive cooperation with investors is envisaged in both cases.
