Ukraine and Canada Implements Joint Biofuel Production Project
OREANDA-NEWS. April 12, 2008. Canada's investment project for the production of parquetry and processing of biomass into fuel granules is being carried out on the basis of Vylokskyi woodworking plant in Transcarpathia (West Ukraine), reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.
It is being implemented within the framework of the international project for the use of biomass in the Carpathians. It is planned to invest almost USD 10 million in the production.
The plant's reconstruction consists of three phases: putting all of the functioning technologies into operation, launching of a parquet making line, and production of fuel granules with biomass under Canada's high technologies.
Under expert estimates, around 200,000 tons of sawdust accumulates in the region during a year. About 120,000 tons more consist of the so-called biomass: sticks, brushwood, bark, spoiled timber, as well as corn haulm, straw, etc. All the stuff is good for production - the enterprise will be able to process 50,000 - 60,000 tons of biomass a year. Meanwhile, the region will get rid of timber industry wastes, which is a serious problem now, and obtain a new kind of fuel. The SwedWood company will be in charge of the project implementation.
