Southern Telecommunications Company Expands BI Networks
OREANDA-NEWS. On 14 April 2008 was announced, that by the end of 2008 Southern Telecommunications Company’s aggregate ports entered into service using ADSL 2+technology will total 483,000, i.e. 94% of its aggregate xDSL ports in use.
Given the trend towards downloading “heavy” multi-media content, Southern Telecommunications Company gave preference to ADSL 2+ technology back in 2005. This technology provides users with Internet access at an incoming traffic speed of up to 24 Mbps, whereas ADSL technology equals 8 Mbps and the speed of outgoing traffic in both cases is 1 Mbps. Using ADSL 2+ opens the opportunity to offer Triple Play services to customers: telephony plus Internet access and digital interactive television.
As of March 1, 2008 Southern Telecommunications Company had around 240,000 broadband ports in service, with nearly 200,000 of them in service.
