OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2008. Yevgeny Velikhov: Global energy security can be ensured through international scientific-technical cooperation

Global energy security can be ensured through international scientific-technical cooperation, Yevgeny Velikhov, member of the Board of the ITER project, the president of Kurchatov Institute, said during the International Forum “Fuel and Energy Complex” in St. Petersburg.

ITER – a project to create an experimental thermonuclear reactor in Cadarache (France) — is a vivid example of such cooperation. The project has been launched this year. It involves the European Union, Russia, the United States, Japan, China, South Korea and India.

Russia will supply the reactor with high-tech experimental equipment worth almost \\$400mln and will have the right to use the results of the whole intellectual work to be done under the project, including know-how.
