Slovakian Companies Interested to Invest in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. On April 08, 2008 this was announced in Chisinau within the frameworks of the Moldovan-Slovak business forum by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Jan Kubis, specifying that these are companies cooperating with the countries of Central Europe and whose representatives arrived to Moldova to seek for new business partners.
As Slovak minister noted, various development projects will be launched in the power sector. According to Kubis, currently the projects in the areas of renewable energy are discussed. "Our businessmen are engaged in the projects on renewable energy sources and biomass. There are also entrepreneurs who are involved in infrastructure development"- noted Kubis.
As the Director General of Slovak Media Company "Menert s.r.o" Miroslav Vollner announced, his company is engaged in repairing electricity and heat stations and introduction of renewable energy sources. He also said that the company has necessary resources to invest in Moldova, but did specify the amount. According to him, the company implemented a number of projects in the field of energy in the countries of Central Europe, including Romania.
In the first project, implemented in the neighbouring country, the company "Menert sro" invested 6 million euro. As Miroslav Vollner noted, in Slovakia, his company started repair of electricity and heat stations 15 years ago and has not completed it yet. "Moldova has still a lot of work to do in this field and there are a lot of investment opportunities" - Miroslav Vollner added. Moldovan-Slovak forum held on April 7 was attended by 12 representatives of Slovak and 50 Moldovan companies.
The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), in cooperation with the Organization for export promotion. According to MEC, in 2007 the volume of foreign trade with Slovakia amounted to 25,7 million dollars. In 2007, Moldova exported to Slovakia goods worth 8,9 million dollars.
In particular, export of furniture, including surgical cabinets, beds, lamps for outdoor advertising accounted for 33% of the total export. Moldova also exported metal products (20,6% of the total), shoes, umbrellas (18,9%), food stuffs, beverages and tobacco (16,4%).
At the same time, in 2007 Moldova imported Slovak goods for 16,8 million dollars. In particular, Moldova imported plastic materials and products (17%), optical devices, instruments and photographic cameras (17%), footwear and footwear uppers (11,7%), machinery and equipment, electrical equipment (10,9%), metals and metal goods (10%), textiles (7,8%), wood, paper and paperboard (6,9%).
