Moldova Can Get Special Grant from European Commission
OREANDA-NEWS. On April 07, 2008 as the chief of the department of policy and economy of European Commission's delegation in Moldova Paolo Berizzi informed the journalists, this was announced by the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner in Brussels.
Berizzi noted that in 2007, within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy, additional fund of \\$ 50 mln, which will allocate funds to the countries having achieved good results in public administration, was established.
As Paolo Berizzi noted, this year the European Commission will propose to divide means of this fund between Moldova, Ukraine and Morocco, which have reached the best results in carrying out the plan of actions with EU. Berizzi informed that in 2007 EU assistance to Moldova increased fourfold - from 10 million euros in 2003 up to 40 million euros in 2007.
Assistance is mainly provided for implementation of the reforms agreed in the Plan of Actions, which includes poverty reduction and economic growth. In 2007, the European Commission provided 45 million euros in the form of special macro-financial assistance to Moldova in connection with the gas crisis and the crisis in wine industry.
During 2007- 2010, further significant growth of assistance to Moldova - over 250 million euros is presupposed. Assistance to Moldova per capita of population amounts to about 15 euros per year- the highest in the region.
