Russians Can Travel between Russia, Kaliningrad Via Lithuania
OREANDA-NEWS. April 03, 2008. Russian citizens who have obtained a Schengen visa will now be able to travel between Russia and Kaliningrad Region by transit through Lithuania. Kaliningrad Region is an enclave of the Russian Federation, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
In order to obtain a travel document, people also need medical insurance. A passenger with a Schengen visa can now buy a ticket on his or her day of departure.
Otherwise, the earlier procedures of 1 July 2003 remain in force for passenger services between the Kaliningrad Region and the rest of the Russian Federation.
*****
From 1 July 2003, a simplified and accelerated ticket purchasing scheme was introduced for single journeys by Russian citizens between Kaliningrad and the rest of the Russian Federation.
When purchasing tickets, passengers must submit a request for a simplified travel document. Personal passenger data are sent to the Lithuanian embassy in Moscow and entered on to the list of those allowed to transit through Lithuania. The passenger can enquire at any rail counter whether he has received permission to transit through Lithuania 28 hours after the submission of his request. If permission has not been obtained, the passenger can return the ticket and receive his money back.
