OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 April 2008 was announced, that local authorities of the central administrative district of Moscow plan to arrange green spaces on the roofs of not only domestic houses but also schools, kindergartens and stores.

“We started to run an experiment on landscaping the roofs of domestic houses in 2007, at that time the building on 11 Novyy Arbat Street was chosen as a pilot project. We consider this project successful,” Aleksey Vinogradov, deputy prefect of the central district of Moscow, said.

According to him, the tree and shrub planting workers will check how the plants survived the winter in May. “Then it will be possible to speak about the continuation of the experiment in the city’s centre,” Mr Vinogradov added.

“We plan to arrange green spaces not only on domestic houses but also schools, kindergartens, stores, restaurants which have flat roofs,” the deputy prefect noted.
