OREANDA-NEWS. April 01, 2008. As agreed between the Federal Energy Agency of Russia ("Rosenergo") and RAO "UES of Russia", Rosenergo assumes, with effect from 1 April 2008, the role of drafting and shaping regional programs designed to ensure the reliability and development of the electricity industry which has, up to now, been performed by RAO "UES of Russia", reported the press-centre of RAO "UES of Russia".

This decision was taken by top officials of Rosenergo and RAO UES managers as part of the process to transfer the performance of the Parent Company's functions relating to the management and operation of the energy industry to executive authorities as RAO UES is nearing the completion of its reorganization.

The process to put in place regional reliability and electricity industry development programs was launched in 2006. The first fruits of these efforts were the development programs for the energy systems of Moscow, Saint Petersburg and the Tyumen Region for the period until 2010 produced by experts of RAO "UES of Russia", regional authorities and RAO UES energy subsidiaries. By 1 April 2008, RAO "UES of Russia" has concluded Agreements to implement such programs with 20 regional governments.

Work is nearing completion on similar programs being produced in conjunction with the administrations of the Republic of Komi, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Volgograd Region, Samara Region, Rostov Region, Kaluga Region, Omsk Region, Krasnoyarsk Kray, and the regions in the Far Eastern Federal Okrug. Also, the Buryatia Republic's Government approached RAO "UES of Russia" in early 2008 with a proposal to draft a development program for the region. In addition to the role of shaping the regional reliability and electricity development programs for Russia's regions, Rosenergo will assume responsibility for monitoring the overall program implementation process under the agreements signed previously.
