OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2008. Russian Railways attaches great importance to partnerships with foreign railways, whether by setting up joint ventures to offer new services or by collaborating on scientific and technological cooperation, said Company Vice President Mikhail Akulov, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

For example, a project is being developed for the construction of a container terminal at the port of Rajin in North Korea and the renovation of the stretch between Rajin and Khassan in Russia, which will facilitate transhipments between Europe and Asia.

“Initially, the terminal will handle 200,000 TEUs per annum and will ship freight between South Korea, Russia and Western Europe and back. Transportation costs for shippers using the new route should fall by more than 3% compared to the existing route via the ports of Nakhodka and Vostochnyi,” said Akulov.
