OREANDA-NEWS. On April 02, 2008 Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways gave a talk at the VI All-Russian Energy Forum: Russia’s Fuel and Energy Sector in the XXI Century, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Yakunin noted that Russian Railways had reached the highest level of energy efficiency in its history and noted that the Company had reduced the unit cost of fuel and electricity. “In the long run, these numbers will fall by 15% and 11% respectively through our use of fuel gas, gas turbine engines and hybrid power systems,” said Yakunin.

An important role in promoting energy efficiency was played by the investment project Introducing Energy Efficient Technology in Rail Transport, which includes the bringing in an automated integrated system for fuel and energy resources used in the rail sector.

“In addition, Russian Railways is also working consistently on the creation of a multilevel automated electricity accounting system,” said Vladimir Yakunin.
