Stock of Deposits in Moldova Increased by Leis 457,9 mln
OREANDA-NEWS. On March 29, 2008 as it was informed in the National Bank of Moldova, this growth is due to the increase in the balance of deposits in the national currency by 590,9 million leis, or 4,9%, while the balance of deposits in foreign currency decreased by 133 million leis, or 1,4%.
As of late February, the balance of term deposits amounted to 6356 million leis, declining by 180,7 million leis in comparison with the previous month. The share of term deposits amounted to 28,9% of the total deposits in the banking system, decreasing by 1,5 points. The volume of term deposits in MDL reduced by 125,4 million leis and totalled 1256,7 million leis.
The decrease is due to reduced volume of term deposits from individuals by 157 million leis or 13,6%, while the amount of deposits of legal entities grew by 31,6 million leis or 13,8%.
By late February, the stock of term deposits in MDL totaled 8516,9 million leis, increasing by 469,6 million leis, or 5,8% in the result of growth of deposits of individuals by 419,4 million leis (6,2%), as well as deposits of legal entities by 50,2 million leis (3,9%).
The balance of term deposits in foreign currency grew by 169 million lei, or 2,4%- up to 7121,7 million leis. In February 2008, the volume of term deposits in foreign currency amounted to 1004,6 million leis (\\$89,4 million), decreasing by 53,4 million leis or 5% due to reduction of deposits of individuals by 117,6 million leis or 11,7%, while deposits of legal entities increased by 64,2 million leis, or 2,1 times.
