OREANDA-NEWS. March 31, 2008. These results of the poll held by EBRD in Moldova in July 2007 showed that only 19% of recipients of remittances have bank accounts.

At the same time, EBRD considers that Moldova should improve financial awareness of population, which has relatively weak interest in such financial instruments as insurance policies, deposits, loans for small business and education. According to EBRD, interest to financial products in Moldova is lower than in some of the poorest countries in Latin America - Colombia, Honduras and Bolivia.

In this regard, the experts recommend that EBRD and its affiliated institutions should encourage government and private companies to provide the population with basic financial products such as deposit accounts, insurance policies, micro-credits up to 3 thousand dollars for establishing business, as well as loans for education, housing construction or renovation.

According to EBRD, due to these products the population will get acquainted with the cost of credit and will set good relations with the financial institutions.
