Russian Railways Increases Volume of Foreign Trade
OREANDA-NEWS. March 31, 2008. The global energy market since 2007 has led to a substantial increase in the volume of oil exported by rail.
Last year, the volume of oil and petroleum products shipped within Russia and exported amounted to 237.7 million tons, up +2% on the previous year, with 112.3 million tons going for export, a rise of 5.2%.
Exports of petroleum products increased by 9.5% compared with 2006, but exports of crude oil, which in 2006 made up over 20% of all oil exports, fell by 11.6%.
Exports of oil products by rail via ports in 2007 increased by 4.5% and rail shipments through border crossings rose by 5.6%.
In 2007, rail exports of coal mined in Russia rose by 7.6%. Railways shipped 289 million tons of coal for the domestic market and export, with 100 million tons going for export.
Exports of coal via ports increased by 17.9% in 2007. Transportation through border crossings decreased by 1.2%.
Coal imported by rail fell in 2006 by 9.7%.
