OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2008. Atomstroyexport will take part in the international tender for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, the president of Atomstroyexport Sergey Shmatko said while commenting on the discussion of the prospects of the Russian-Egyptian nuclear energy cooperation during the recent meeting of the presidents of the two countries in Moscow.

“Our company is interested in this possibility. As soon as the basic terms of the tender – the capacity of the plant, the financing structure – are known, we will analyze them and will take part in the tender.”

Shmatko pointed out that Russia and Egypt had big experience of cooperation. “The only research reactor in Egypt was built by Soviet specialists in Anshas in 1963 and is still operative,” Shmatko said.
