OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2008.  Uralmashplant, part of Uralmash Machine-Building Corporation (MK Uralmash), is manufacturing equipment for BН-800 reactor to be installed in the fourth unit of Beloyarskaya NPP as per ZIO-Podolsk order (part of OAO EMAlyans-Atom). It is going to be the most powerful fast reactor in the world.

Uralmashplant is the only enterprise in Russia capable of performing the important task of manufacturing the die block (die and punch) for manufacture of parts for БН-800 nuclear reactor cover.

According to the plan, the supply of all the reactor components to Beloyarskaya NPP will take place in December 2008, that's why the equipment will be shipped from Uralmashplant on April 12th at the latest. The equipment will be delivered by motor transport as its large overall dimensions do not allow railway transportation.

Erection of the forth power unit of Beloyarskaya NPP began in the USSR times, but it was on hold due to lack of funds in the 90-ies. Now the erection is resumed and work is carried out on the fourth unit: recently ZIO-Podolsk has supplied 18 modules there.

БН-800 reactor will be fully manufactured by ZIO-Podolsk. Uralmash will supply the die block for manufacture of the reactor cover, which will consist of punched "petals" made of stainless steel, each of 8 m in length and approximately 50 mm in thickness.

Since the equipment is intended for nuclear power engineering, the requirements to workmanship quality and manufacture accuracy of the die and punch for manufacture of the reactor cover are very exacting. The blank for them, made of special steel, was cast in Ukraine. The die block itself weighing 76 t features complex geometry, that's why it's machined in three dimensions sequentially on two high-end machines. After the work is done, it will be thoroughly inspected by ZIO-Podolsk experts.

Uralmash will also supply a die block to ZIO-Podolsk for manufacture of the reactor bottom.
