Metro Cash & Carry Invested UAH 8 mln into Modernization
OREANDA-NEWS. On 20 March 2008 was announced, that Metro Cash & Carry stores in Golosiyivskyi district of Kyiv and at Aeroportivska street in Odesa opened their doors for customers with a new lay-out based on the shop-in-shop principle, Room of Premium meat products and a separate entry for Gold Card Customers. The total remodeling investment exceeds UAH 8 Mio.
These are the first two of the planned eleven wholesale stores remodeling in 2008. The new planning of the nonfood area is realized according to the latest international Metro Cash & Carry concept and adapted to local requirements. Serving professional customers from HoReCa and trade sector the 10 000 sq. m. Metro Cash & Carry stores each enlarged the area of their Household, Office Equipment, Consumer Electronics and Seasonal Goods departments by over 700 sq. m.
The new shop-in-shop concept divides the nonfood area into thematic worlds. In Household Metro Cash & Carry distinguishes the thematic worlds of Table Ware, Kitchen Ware and Cleaning. The inside shop effect is achieved through the combination of high and low racks. The store has three consultation desks at which customers can receive professional advice on the assortment. Metro Cash & Carry at Poznyaky was the first remodeled in July 2007.
The reopened stores have the room with premium class meat products, which covers an area of 18 sq. m. and offers an assortment of over 120 meat products sourced both from Ukrainian producers as well as from Spain, Hungary and Italy. Here gourmets can find anything from mini salami to Proshyto ham. The same room opened in Metro Cash & Carry at Petrivka in November 2007.
The new professional entry lets owners of Metro Cash & Carry Gold Card directly into the food close to the Gold Card cash desks where top Gold Card customers can enjoy a range of special services.
The assortment spanning 28 000 articles in food and nonfood is designed to offer quality goods in every price level. This leads to a further development of A-brands selection and an extension of the own brand assortment as a response to local needs of professional customers.
The enlarged nonfood departments offer a wider range of goods needed by Metro Cash & Carry professional customers for their daily business. In Household the assortment of glasses has increased by almost 50%. The offer of professional high quality dishes has grown up to 30%.
The office equipment department offers a wider range of office furniture, technical equipment and stationary assortment. Consumer electronics with an extended selection of TV-sets, audio technique, DVDs and press are meeting customers with an optimized assortment and a new modern design.

The remaining wholesale stores of Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine will undergo similar remodeling. All new stores will open with the remodeled space. Total investments into stores modernization will amount over UAH 40 Mio.
Within 5 years of operations in Ukraine Metro Cash & Carry opened 18 wholesale stores: three in Kyiv, two in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk, one in Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, Luhansk, Kryvyi Rih, Poltava, Vinnytsa, Zaporizhya, Chernivtsi, Mykolaiv and Rivne. Having invested into the Ukrainian economy ? 360 Mio Metro Cash & Carry created over 6 100 new jobs for Ukrainians.
