ALARA Principle Is to Exchange Experience in Radiation Safety
OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2008. An international seminar on "Radiation Safety of a Nuclear Power Plant: Ways to Reduce Personnel Exposure Dose by Applying ALARA Principle" set off at Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant on Mar 10 2008. The organizers of the seminar are VGB PowerTech (Germany) and the Moscow Center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. The seminar is part of "Twinning" program. Specialists of nuclear power plants and organizations-members of WANO MC from Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Iran, Armenia, Ukraine and Russia are taking part in the seminar.
While addressing the participants in the seminar, the deputy chief engineer for safety of Smolensk NPP Alexander Abaimov said that Smolensk NPP gave top priority to radiation safety. "We hope that today’s seminar will become one more step towards reduction of personnel exposure dose. Specialists from different countries are taking part in our seminar and their experience will certainly help in the matter".
Russian, Bulgarian, German and Lithuanian specialists made reports on modernization of radiation control systems, environment monitoring, reduction of exposure dose and other subjects.
The seminar will last till Mar 15 2008.
