OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2008. In January-February, 2008, throughput of Archangelsk seaport grew by 10.8%, year-on-year, to 666,175 tonnes. In the reported period, the port’s stevedoring companies accepted 56,271 tonnes of cargo (+19.6%, year-on-year) including 30,544 tonnes of import cargo (-7.9%), 25,727 tones of coastal trade cargo (+85.5%). Import included 7,424 tonnes of containerized cargo (+25.7%), transshipment of machines and equipment - 1,168 tonnes (7 ties as high as in the same period of the previous year). Incoming coastal trade cargo included 0,501 tonnes of containerized cargo (no coastal trade containers were handled in the port in the same period of 2007) and 25,225 tonnes of other general cargo (+81.9).

In the two-month period of 2008, the port dispatched 609,904 tonnes of cargo including 247,562 tonnes of export (up 2.7 times), 362,341 tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-19.8%). Export of containerized cargo amounted to 8,091 tonnes (+29.3%, year-on-year), timber - 70,507 tonnes (+9.9%), cellulose 18,166 tonnes (up 2.1 times), cardboard and paper - 7,648 tonnes (up 2.9 times, year-on-year).

Dispatched coastal trade cargo included 322,601 tonnes of oil and oil products (-17.3%), 22,148 tonnes of other general cargo (up 2.7 times), 4,285 tonnes of containerized cargo (down 7.6 times, year-on-year).

The port of Archangelsk is the largest seaport in the Northern region of Russia. Seaport of Archangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Archangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Archangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
