Latvian and Estonia Shared Common Position on Every Issue
OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2008. Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, during his working visit to Estonia, met Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia.
The Prime Minister and Estonian Prime Minister discussed current international issues, including the preparation process and coordination of positions for the sitting of the European Council, NATO Summit and the Council of the Baltic Sea States.
The heads of governments of Latvia and Estonia shared a common position on nearly every issue. During the meeting with Estonian Prime Minister A. Ansip, the bilateral relations of both countries and regional issues, energy and environmental matters were discussed in more detail, as well as enhancing neighbourhood policy in Georgia, Moldova and the Ukraine was regarded.
During the discussion, the heads of the governments regarded the development of the economic situation in both countries, as currently both Latvia and Estonia are facing steep price increases, a slowdown in gross domestic product growth and a transition of a very rapid economic growth to a stabilisation phase.
The Prime Ministers of both countries shared a common view on the mutual integrity of markets of all Baltic States and necessity to coordinate any changes in tax policy.
