OREANDA-NEWS. On February 29, 2008 a new landfill with the total area 5,9 hectares is put into operation at Lebedinsky iron ore mining and processing plant. The project costs 20 millions rubles, reported the press-centre of Metalloinvest.

The landfill is equipped with the up-to-date infrastructure: sewage system, light, water-supply including water distribution and spray technique and a fire pump station with two tanks 100 cubic meters each and evaporation pond. It’s a unique project of Belgorodsky region, LGOK experts tell.

Different ways of waste storage are worked out at LGOK. Some waste materials are given to subcontractors for treatment. In other cases a burial of wastes according to sanitary and ecological requirements is necessary. The target of a new landfill construction is to minimize environmental impact of Lebedinsky iron ore mining and processing plant.

Ecologists of LGOK are confident that a new landfill will help to improve ecological situation of the region, safeguard natural surroundings and preserve biodiversity.
