Belarus Expands Commodity Distribution Network in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2008. More than 150 entities of commodity distribution network of Belarus operate in Ukraine.
At present, the Belarusian-Ukrainian joint assembly facilities on production of tractors, municipal equipment on the base of MAZ trucks and also elevators were set up in Ukraine. The biggest joint project is the company which assembles MTZ tractors in Kyiv. The joint venture has already assembled more than 8 thousand machines.
MAZ is ready to supply component parts of trolleybuses MAZ 103T to produce trolleybuses jointly with Ukrainian companies. The sides are also discussing an opportunity to launch an assembly production of Belarusian buses in Ukraine.
The issues related to the trade and economic cooperation of Belarus and Ukraine will be discussed at the 14th session of the intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation which will be held in Minsk on February 29. The Belarusian part of the commission will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko, the Ukrainian part – by 1st Vice Premier Alexander Turchinov. During the session the sides are set to discuss the prospects of the cooperation in machine-building, petrochemistry, energy supply, transport and agriculture.
Ukraine is one of the main trade partners of Belarus. In 2007, the trade between the two countries upped by 22.3% as against 2006. The Belarusian exports made up $1 billion 472 million (19.3% up), the imports - $1 billion 534 million (25.4% up).
The main Belarusian export articles to Ukraine are tractors, trucks, elevators, parts for trucks and tractors, oil products, bitumen, polymers, tyres, potash fertilizer, synthetic fiber, glass, wallpaper, sausages, seafood and others.
The main import articles from Ukraine are intermediate and investments goods (90% of the total import): metal, spare parts, millcake, sunflower oil, varnishes and paints, gas turbines, carriages and electric power.
