OREANDA-NEWS. On February 26, 2008 by Resolution #223 the Council of Ministers of Belarus confirmed an architecture project of the construction of a gas turbine facility that would secure the company’s sustainable electric supply and saving of fuel and energy resources, reported the Official website www.government.by.

The company will install two turbines with the 8MW capacity apiece and two boilers with the total productivity of 50 tonnes of steam per hour. Grodno Azot has already received the major bulk of energy equipment. The station is expected to be assembled in March and in summer it will start running. Siemens supplies the company with necessary equipment.

The gas turbine station will help the company to save considerably by means of producing electric energy with prime cost to be 3,5 times lower. Generated steam will be used for production processes (the production of carbamide, in particular). These energy saving steps are set to cut the prime cost of nitrogen fertilizers.

The construction of a 16MW gas turbine unit is the first stage of the project on creating generating capacities of Grodno Azot Company. The company has signed a contract with Siemens on supplies of energy equipment for the second unit of the total capacity 16MW.

The project is financed by the company’s own funds. The cost of the first stage stands at Br71,6 billion. The project is expected to pay back in three and half years.

Grodno Azot is a major producer of caprolactam and mineral fertilizers. The company produces such nitrogen fertilizers as carbamide, liquid nitrogen fertilizers, and ammonia sulphate. Grodno Azot also produces liquid technical-grade ammonia, nitrogen and sulphur acids, consumer goods. The company employs around seven thousand professionals.
