OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2008. The National Council on TV and Radio Broadcasting granted TRK Ukraina with license for TRK Novosti channel to be broadcast via satellite. We remind that the National Council considered this decision and took it as a basis on 30 January, reported the press-centre of SCM.

Marina Mirgorodskaya, editor-in-chief, TRK Ukraine says: “We believe we can create a professional channel because we have experience and traditions of information broadcasting that have always been a major aspect of TRK Ukraine operation. TRK Novosti will differ because we want to focus on social issues and provide more news about Ukrainian regions”.

The channel will have a news block every hour as well as a breakfast show, analytical interviews, and comments.

TRK Novosti is one of niche channels planned for launch within the future media-group to be built on the basis of TRK Ukraina. TRK Futbol is expected to start broadcasting within the Group structure before the year end. The license has been already received. The headquarters will be located in Kiev.

Waldemar Dzik, CEO of TRK Ukraina, says: “Development of the media group is the most promising activity for our structure. Niche channels will appear together with the main one. This is a global trend, a response of television to development of technologies”.

TRK Ukraina is one of the major national TV channels of Ukraine (it ranks 6th according to GFK-Ukraine). The key shareholder of TRK Ukraina is System Capital Management (owns 99,67% of shares).

TRK Ukraina is the channel which covers all types of audiences. Broadcasting areas include news, education and children programs, entertainment, feature films and sports with coverage performed by cable, air, and satellite.

In 2007 TRK Ukraina increased its share in audience “4+” by 14% compared to 2006. This is the best audience share growth indicator among big Ukrainian channels. In 2007, the average figures are as follows
