FAS Agreed Upon Resolution on Meat Quotas in 2008-2009
OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2008. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) agreed upon the draft Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation "On Introducing Amendments to № 732 Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of 5th December 2005", prepared by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development on the basis of the outcome of the meeting of the Advisory Council on monitoring import of poultry, beef and pork, which takes into consideration the FAS Russia's position on regulating the meat import to the Russian Federation, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.
The draft allows allocation of the main quotas for 2008 and 2009 between economic agents, involved in foreign trade, which imported meat products in 2005 and (or) in 2006 and (or) in 2007, pro rata their import quantities.
According to the Head of FAS Russia Igor Artemyev, such an approach serves the market interests to the utmost, because it ensures allocation of quotas to the foreign trade agents engaged in off-quotas meat import in 2007, who have proved their earnest intentions to work in this business. Furthermore, adopting the draft Resolution creates a predictable pattern for allocation of 2009 quotas and eliminates possibility of anticompetitive actions in form of fixing prices for imported goods by the meat suppliers.
