Textile Industry of Turkmenistan Closed Carpet Exhibition
OREANDA-NEWS. February 18, 2008. The Textile Industry of Turkmenistan and the Art of Carpet Weaving International Exhibition was closed at the Exhibition Centre in Ashkhabad . The forum was organised by the Ministry of Textile Industry, the Turkmenhaly State JSC and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.
The large-scale exposition aimed to present the achievements of Turkmenistan’s textile industry and the original traditions of Turkmen carpet weaving to foreign partners and specialists brought together the representatives of over 60 large companies and firms from 20 countries worldwide. The international scientific conferences arranged within the framework of the forum in Ashgabat gave the opportunities to exchange views on the priority trends and prospects of development of mutually advantageous co-operation.
The people and guests of the Turkmen capital visited the three-day exhibition, which demonstrated the capacities and many-sided potential of Turkmenistan’s textile industry vividly proved by the high quality and a broad range of textile goods meeting the international standards. The exposition presented by the enterprises and organisations of the Ministry of Textile Industry of Turkmenistan was of keen interest to the visitors. Yarn, fabric and ready-made garments made in Turkmenistan compete with the products produced by the world’s leading textile manufacturers. Within the next few years the range of domestically manufactured goods will be broadened in Turkmenistan through developing production of jacquard, portiere fabric, velvet, velveteen, cambric, muslin of great demand on world market.
The exhibition provided Turkmen textile workers with the opportunities to get acquainted with the activity and potential of the well-known foreign manufacturers, which arranged the pavilions and stands at the Exhibition Centre.
The exposition devoted to the world-renowned national art of the Turkmen people - carpet weaving was of profound interest at the Ashgabat forum. Over 10,000 carpets and carpet articles produced at the Turkmenhaly State JSC, and in particular those created by the Turkmen designers and craftswomen on the basis of the old specimens kept in the private and museum collections worldwide were presented to the visitors. The total metric area of the carpet canvases, including silk carpets presented at the exhibition was over 5,500 square metres. The hand-made, whose patterns were interlaced with the symbols of the new epoch of the Turkmen history, deserved admiring.
