OREANDA-NEWS. February 18, 2008. Last year was a fruitful one for the laboratory, connected with successful and efficient research work. The main jobs were accomplished in Cold-Rolling Shop No.1 and Cold-Rolling Shop No.3, where most of the new equipment was adjusted and commissioned. First of all, it concerns modernization of shearing aggregates for packing strips, including two-position decoilers of a vertical type and an original design, feeding the coil strips into the decoilers. The introduction of this equipment made it possible to free the electric overhead crane of this operation. Putting into operation of the 2-position depiler of sheets on shearing line No.1 in Cold-Rolling Shop No.3 has opened up possibilities to sort out shearings (crops) and off-grade products into two containers. Second-class quality sheets are sorted out automatically without stopping the aggregate. This equipment makes it possible to produce commercial products ready for packing and realization.

In the pickling department of Cold-Rolling Shop No.3 a broadened roll table of an original design has been constructed and is in operation. Together with this equipment a car for accumulating charges has been designed and it will be installed during the next capital repair, making the work of the operators much easier. It will also create accident-free working conditions.

The work regarding lifting of pressure rollers in acid baths of pickling line No.3 in Cold-Rolling Shop No.1 has become particularly effective. The problem lied in the fact that the pressure rollers, which were fixed directly on the bath, did not allow removal of the strip from the solution, and that is why the technology required drainage of about 45m3 of acid solution from the bath every day and preparation and charging of new portions of acid (about 15 tons). The designed and mounted construction made it possible to lift the pressure rollers. Now the strip is removed from the baths, and the acid solution remains in it for multiple use.

The benefits and a lot of other advantages are on hand. All the developments are made by the collective consisting of only 7 persons under supervision of the laboratory head Alexander Vagis, the group heads Dmitriy Parkhomenko and the author of this article. Experienced designers, such as Tatiana Pigaryova and young engineers Dmitriy Nazarenko, Dmitriy Cherevan’ and Dmitriy Tkachenko, work in this laboratory.

A result of the work of our small collective has become not only the economic effect, amounting to 2 mln 877 thousand UAH, but what is most valuable, words of gratitude of the shop staff for the machines created by the intellect and the inspiration of our designers.

New Year started for us with the fulfillment of the stock of orders, made out by the management of the Works. In particular, a technical solution has already been found regarding an old problem connected with the “quarto” mill in Cold-Rolling Shop No.1. At present we are busy working out a project on a mechanized line for feeding coils of off-grade strips to be sheared on this aggregate. This will free the loading of these coils with the help of an electric overhead crane in the pickling department and will considerably increase the machine time of the “quarto” mill, hence creating a supposition for more productive work of the collective.
